Wear Your Special Perfume

by kyliedoak on September 6, 2008

I love perfume! I have a few different ones and I enjoy them all.

Like many women, I used to “save” my perfumes for using only on a special occasion. I didn’t feel that a regular, everyday occasion (like going to the supermarket or other shopping, for example) warranted me wearing my special perfume.

In August 2000, my Dad’s sister passed away after a relatively short illness.

I was talking with my cousin (my aunt’s daughter) during this particularly sad time, and noticed that she was wearing perfume. I loved the smell of it and asked her what is was. She told me it was “Chanel No 5″. I had heard of it, of course – who hasn’t?! – but I’d never smelled it before. I loved it!

My cousin then explained to me that she used to keep it for special occasions, but had come to realise that life is too short, and that you never know what is around the corner. There’s no point having it if you’re not going to use it.

How true, don’t you think? – I do.

So ever since that conversation, I wear my special perfume when I feel like it.

We all tend to take our lives for granted at some time or another. That’s perfectly normal human behaviour. Sadly, it is often only when tragedy strikes you or someone you know and love that the realisation “life on earth isn’t forever” really hits home.

Who do we wear our perfume for? In my opinion, it is ultimately for ourselves, not for anyone else.

So wear your special perfume, because every day of your life is special.

When you feel good about yourself, it shows! If wearing perfume once in a while (or more!) helps you to feel good about yourself/be attractive to others, then just do it!

Of course there are thousands of other ways to feel good about yourself. Wearing perfume is just one of those things – but that’s a whole other story!

Your LIFE is a SPECIAL OCCASION – celebrate it!

I’ve written a short poem about wearing perfume that I’d like to share with you:

Wear your special perfume,
Don’t save it for “some day”,
“Some day” may never happen,
But then again, it may!

So just be on the safe side,
Don’t let it go to waste,
Wear your special perfume,
And show you have good taste!

Do you have special things that you only use now and then?  If so, consider using them more often and enjoy them – you’re worth it!

You are so right! We need to enjoy everything now! I am always impressed with your poetry! This poem in particular is cute, light and punctuates the message! Don’t take a chance, enjoy!

Hi Linda

Thanks! I love writing poems. I have another one for you all very soon (creating a slide show to go with it). :)

Cliched and all as it is, life really IS too short and there is no point waiting until “some day” or “one day” to be happy and enjoy it. The classic “I’ll be happy when …” is such a sad way to think (and I’ve certainly been guilty of thinking like that over the years, but no more!).

Make you special things your every day things and enjoy. :)

Well i am going to come from a male’s point of view and say that i am happy for all women to wear their special perfume everyday. There is nothing more beautiful than the scent of a woman walking past that smells awesome! It stops me dead in my tracks.
I used to make “special cups of coffee” for myself on the weekends and have instant during the week. Now i get up a bit earlier and make sure i take the time to have a special cup whenever i feel like it :)
Great post Kylie

Hi Matt

Aww … aren’t you gorgeous! Your wife is a very lucky woman. :)

I’m pleased to hear that you treat yourself more often with your special coffee – that’s a great way to start your day. :)

Hi Kylie, I used to do this too and I would do it with all sorts of things like clothes. I couldn’t agree more that we shouldn’t wait to use these things. If it makes you feel good then go for it. You can always buy more later if you run out!
I love the little poem at the bottom.

Hi Sally

I think it’s a pretty safe bet that most people have done this before. ;)

Like you, I’ve done it with clothes (and then they’ve either gone out of fashion, or I’ve “grown” out of them – hehe – or sometimes I’ve simply forgotten that I had them and didn’t get the wear out of them that I should have! doh!).

I’m pleased you enjoyed the poem – I’m very proud of it, as with all the poems that I’ve done so far.

Enjoy your special things every day.

I so agree Kylie. I see this a lot when I quote on deceased estates – people have put away their china for “Best” and have never had the pleasure of using it. In fact China will dry out and deteriorate (craze) if it’s not used. Make every day the BEST! LOL Kathy

Hi Kathy

What a nice surprise to see you here. :)

You’ve made a very good (and ironic) point there, actually. In saving certain things for “later”, they can (and do) often deteriorate then can’t be used “later” anyway! … elastic waistbands are something that comes to mind … !

Thanks for your comment.

Hi Kylie, you’re absolutely right, every day is special & so are we. I used to do this but I’m pleased to say that my priorities are placed a bit more appropriately now. Thanks for sharing & that’s a cute little poem. Cheers Toni

Hi Toni

I think it’s human nature to want to keep some things “special” and that’s fine, as long as we don’t do ourselves the disservice of not enjoying them at all! Kathy raised an excellent point in her comment … some things deteriorate, so we might as well use them before that happens!

I’m pleased to hear that your priorities have altered to suit you better.

Thanks for commenting.

Kylie,
Love the phrase “Life is a SPECIAL OCCASION. CELEBRATE it.”

My form of celebrating every day is to use Lenox China for most of my meals—from coffee in the morning to midnight snacks. It’s also fun to haul out the Waterford for the slightest provocation.

You are so right, my friend. Life is too short and EACH day should be celebrated!

Your poetry always inspires me! Keep it coming:)

Hi Darlene

Thanks! I think it’s a pretty good phrase too. :)

When you stop and think about it, every single one of us is lucky that we are here, so life really is precious (and a privilege) and it’s not forever (unfortunately! :( ).

I’ve been “blown away” by how much people are enjoying my poetry and I thank you for the lovely compliments you give me. I’ll have to write a poem about you (now there’s an idea!).

I get what you mean. I remember someone telling me about life, he said that we should live life freely and do what we can to be happy, because everyday(today) is such a gift that is why we call it ‘present’. You both are right. Live everyday without regrets! :)

Hi William

You’re absolutely right on that! Nothing is guaranteed. We all assume we’ll be here for the rest of today, tomorrow, next week, next year etc, but really, there isn’t any guarantee that any of us will be here in the next minute. :(

I don’t know whose quote this is, but it’s perfect (and what the person you refer to likely said to you):

Yesterday is History
Tomorrow a Mystery
Today is a Gift
That’s why it’s called “The Present”.

Enjoy every moment, William and thank you once again for taking the time to comment on my blog posts. :)
